Minnesota Women, Food & Ag Network
In 2014 Women’s Environmental Institute became the Minnesota host of the Women, Food, and Agriculture Network with the aim of bringing Minnesota women farmers together! We had our first meeting at the 2014 Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Services (MOSES) Organic Farming Conference. Two major goals that came out of our brainstorming at the MOSES lunch were (1) create a listserv for communication among MN women farmers & (2) create regional WFAN groups in Minnesota.
If you would like to a part of our MN Women, Food, and Agriculture Network email list, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We have also created a Facebook group called “MN Women, Food, and Agriculture Network”.
The second goal of forming regional groups will depend on participation from the different corners of Minnesota and finding individuals that would like to organize in those areas. We started this process with a potluck lunch “A Gathering of Minnesota Women Farmers” on Saturday, March 29th, 2014, followed by two more gatherings. We hope to plan a winter meeting towards the end of 2015.
WFAN is a community of women involved in sustainable agriculture. We are farmers, landowners, researchers, students, advocates and mothers concerned about our families’ health and land. We come from all over the US and several other countries, and do the majority of our work in the Midwest. The mission of WFAN — to link and empower women to build food systems and communities that are healthy, just, sustainable, and that promote environmental integrity — synchronizes with WEI’s mission, creating a productive partnership for both organizations. WFAN offers networking and resources in three main programs: Women Caring for the Land, Plate to Politics and Harvesting Our Potential. See more here.
