Environmental Health & Herbalism Program – Level II

Take the next nourishing step in naturopathic principles, environmental health, and herbalism in this Level Two, Intermediate foundational course.  In this class, natural and botanical medicine, as well as holistic health principles, are woven together to assist in the healing we need from emotional toxins and contemporary stressors and the ongoing bombardment of daily environmental toxins and community violence.  Problems will be assessed, addressed and creative, holistic and herbalist solutions applied to case scenarios. Students will learn how to work on individual patient environmental health case scenarios and more complex community health eco-threats. Graduates of this Level 2 course will successfully integrate concepts and skills derived from personal approaches, as well as strategies from public health to the CAM, Complementary Alternative Medicine professions.

 

Objectives of the Class:

⦁ Holistic Ecological Health: integrate wellness into individual and community life

⦁ Eco-Detective Work: identify and analyze contemporary environmental health hazards and problems

⦁ Environmental Health Issues: assess disease scenarios, identify imbalances and create holistic solutions in clinical settings

⦁ Herbs for Contemporary Stressors: examine Adaptogen, Alterative, Nervine and Nourishing Herbs for the human brain, body and nervous system

⦁ Detoxification & Cleansing Herbs:  Understand the 5 main human elimination pathways in the body and herbal combinations to support them

⦁ Herbal Applications, create and handcraft a set of Flower Essences addressing stress, trauma, and PTSD for your practice

⦁ Natural Medicine News: Interact with instructor and participants about professional issues, ethics, and contemporary CAM

⦁ Complementary Alternative Medicine issues

Instructor Bio: Gigi Stafne MH, ND is an enthusiastic educator, activist, and writer in the health justice and natural medicine fields She is faculty at the Women’s Environmental Institute, Director of the Green Wisdom School of Natural & Botanical Medicine and former Executive Director of Herbalists Without Borders International. Earth ethics, ecology, sustainability, and environmental health are woven into every level of her organizing and teaching for the past 30+ years.

  • Floor-chairs and/or meditation cushions for informal components of the class
  • Outdoor wear

 

 

Meals: 

 

  • Saturday: Bring your own lunch, bring a dish to share for pot-luck dinner
  • Sunday: WEI will provide a simple vegan soup lunch
  • WEI will provide coffee, tea, light refreshments throughout the weekend

 

Overnight Accommodations: Limited space is available for overnight accommodations at WEI’s Eco-Retreat Center for $25/night. Please be prepared to share a room with other students. Students are not required to stay overnight.
