Environmental Health & Herbalism Program – Level I

Botanical medicine basics, naturopathic principles, and ecological health are at the core of this foundational level certificate course. Deepen wisdom, sharpen skills and improve upon personal health and wellness, as well as offering compassionate care to family and friends. Participants learn to apply Herbalism to real-life scenarios from basic health ailments to everyday environmental toxins and exposures. Examine diverse philosophies and practices within Herbalism, ranging from the radical herbalism of Street Medic work to clinical herbalism within CAM Integrative Medicine Centers from rural to urban centers. Beginner Herbalism & Environmental Health is a must for those who have a passion for plants, people and this precious planet, Earth.

⦁ Contemporary Consumer Trends, examining the top 20 herbs used in North America
⦁ Environmental Health Issues, moving from theory into real-life holistic practices
⦁ Case Studies with Herbs for the Life Cycle, pregnancy to elder wisdom years
⦁ Plants in the Wild, identify 20+ plants from field to forest for medicinal, wild edible, ecological and other cultural uses
⦁ Herbal Applications, create and handcraft herb products to bring home to use–teas, tinctures, therapeutic salts, infused oils & Rescue Remedy flower essence

Instructor Bio: Gigi Stafne MH, ND is an enthusiastic educator, activist, and writer in the health justice and natural medicine fields She is faculty at the Women’s Environmental Institute, Director of the Green Wisdom School of Natural & Botanical Medicine and former Executive Director of Herbalists Without Borders International. Earth ethics, ecology, sustainability, and environmental health are woven into every level of her organizing and teaching for the past 30+ years.

- Floor-chairs and/or meditation cushions for informal components of the class
- Outdoor wear
- Saturday: Bring your own lunch, bring a dish to share for pot-luck dinner
- Sunday: WEI will provide a simple vegan soup lunch
- WEI will provide coffee, tea, light refreshments throughout the weekend
Overnight Accommodations: Limited space is available for overnight accommodations at WEI’s Eco-Retreat Center for $25/night. Please be prepared to share a room with other students. Students are not required to stay overnight.
